Momentum is growing in the main stream media and Conservative media like News limited that Libieral MPS are unhappy with Tony Abbott and as once has been quoted saying to the Australian today ” “One or both has to go,” the Liberal, who asked not to be named, said of Mr Loughnane and Ms Credlin. “If they were smart, one of them would resign.”
SENIOR Liberals have warned of an “unresolvable” conflict of interest at the party’s highest levels as criticism mounts of an email bulletin from leader Tony Abbott slamming the government’s proposed flood levy and calling for donations to party funds.
The Opposition Leader has blamed the party’s federal secretariat for the gaffe but refused to criticise its actions, describing the call for funds as “standard practice”.
Liberal federal director Brian Loughnane is married to Abbott chief of staff Peta Credlin.
Longstanding concern within the party over the dynamics of the relationship and its implications appears to be mounting.
Senior Liberals warned yesterday that Mr Abbott had taken the blame for a blunder by the secretariat he should be free to condemn.
“If any conflict emerges between the leader’s office and the federal secretariat, it’s unresolvable because of the conflict of interest,” one told The Weekend Australian.
Another said: “If you have a problem with the secretariat, you can’t go and see the leader’s office and if you have a problem with the leader’s office, you can’t go and see the secretariat.
“One or both has to go,” the Liberal, who asked not to be named, said of Mr Loughnane and Ms Credlin. “If they were smart, one of them would resign.”
