Mr Abbott was also questioned on the study of religious texts at school.

He argued the Bible should be a feature of the curriculum.

“It is important that people leave school with some understanding of the place of the Bible in our culture, the place of Christian teachings In the evolution of our great institutions and in the values that we take for granted,” he said.
